Sandwell Council awards traffic signal maintenance contract to Telent

The deal marks the third win for Telent’s traffic business in 2018, following wins with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Oxfordshire County Council

Warwick, 05 July: Telent Technology Services Ltd (Telent), a leading UK technology and network services company, has announced that it has been awarded a four-year contract to provide maintenance services to Sandwell Council’s traffic signal network.

The latest in a series of contracts won by Telent this year, the deal sees the company retain its decade-long contract with Sandwell, for whom the company has provided maintenance services since January 2008. It will include the maintenance of 109 Traffic Signal Junctions, 174 Pedestrian Crossings and 8 Journey Time Monitoring Cameras.

The contract will offer continuous benefits to the residents of Sandwell, including the creation of employment opportunities and the sourcing of suppliers from the local community. Furthermore, as a result of the Telent team’s assets, variety of equipment and familiarity with the area, it is in a prime position to deliver premium services and ensure all contract KPIs are met.

Samantha Harvey, Regional Manager, Transport at Telent who is managing the Sandwell contract said: “We are delighted to continue working with Sandwell Council, an appointment that further demonstrates the breadth of Telent’s innovation and proactivity with constantly changing road technology. Our understanding of the customer is second to none, and this contract highlights our expertise in the traffic sector.”

The renewed contract, which commenced on 1st April this year, is worth up to £2 million and was secured via a highly competitive tendering process. Telent’s prior experience and thorough understanding of Sandwell Council’s needs built via the strong relationship with the council was demonstrated in its answers to the tender questions to secure the deal.

Rob Conlon, Business Development Manager, Traffic at Telent added: “This contract builds on our existing relationship with Sandwell Council and we are looking forward to continuing to work closely with them and build on our already excellent relationship.”

The first six months of 2018 have been a major highlight for Telent with a number of contract wins in the traffic sector. Prior to successfully securing the prestigious Sandwell contract, the company was awarded a four-year contract to supply and maintain traffic signal and related ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) equipment for Stoke-on-Trent City Council. In February, Telent also secured the five-year Oxfordshire County Council contract, comprising the supply, installation and maintenance of signalling equipment and associated ITS on-street solutions countywide. Due to its demonstrative knowledge of the traffic management field and proven ability to promptly provide solutions, Telent continues to grow and support new and existing clients in the traffic sector.
