Mission-Critical Technology for Smarter, Safer Military Bases

Telent is a leading technology company specialising in the design, build, support and management of the UK’s critical national infrastructure and mission critical communication networks.

Telent’s experience with network solutions for campus style environments, bringing together wired and wireless technologies, is ideal to support the “smart base” concept for military facilities and operational bases. These network solutions bring together IP core networks with wireless access based on Wi-Fi and 5G Private Network technology plus SD-WAN technologies from multiple leading vendors.

Fixed Infrastructure Networks

Networks are at the heart of the critical national infrastructure services and solutions that Telent provide across the UK and Ireland. Whether wired or wireless, these solutions all demand high performance networks that deliver speed, capacity and reliability against stringent security requirements. However, the network application environments are very diverse, frequently covering campus environments for universities and large scale operational sites such as the Hinkley Point C nuclear site. Other network solutions span multiple locations to connect operational assets such as the 163 remote radio sites around the UK’s coast for the Maritime & Coastguard Agency or the 4,400 mile National Roads Telecommunication Services that connect the strategic road network for National Highways.

5G Private Networks

5G Private Networks provide an on-premises 5G network that is dedicated to your organisation, providing coverage across your entire site, both within buildings and across campus and operational base environments. The 5G private network delivers high performance, high speed and secure connectivity for applications across a range of industry sectors and is also ideal for military applications at headquarters, operational bases, training centres and can provide a tactical communications bubble for forward deployments.

SD-WAN

Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) enables the ability to create a secure virtual overlay model over any type of network connectivity available today. It also allows a hybrid approach to connectivity that ensures data integrity and security. SD WAN provides the simplified, centralised provisioning and zero touch deployment of WAN solutions, delivering the benefits of optimising applications, greater insight and visibility of traffic patterns while providing the right levels of user and application experience.

SD WAN offers the ability for organisations to increase security in hybrid communication environments while also offering Opex and Capex savings by using the right type of connectivity based upon the geographic location, size of site and user demographic allowing organisations to be flexible in its approach.

SASE

Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) is a framework that provides the capability to offer security in a digitised world. In today’s challenging IT environments, data is no longer held centrally and users no longer work in a uniform manner but need access to data from any device, any location. With data services becoming more cloud centric and applications delivered through “as a Service” models, traditional security mechanisms no longer deliver the level of security and control needed. SASE is the convergence of wide area networking, or WAN, and network security services into a single, cloud-delivered service model.

SASE capabilities are delivered as a service based upon the identity of the entity, real-time context, enterprise security/compliance policies and continuous assessment of risk/trust throughout the sessions. Identities of entities can be associated with people, groups of people, locations, devices, applications, services, IoT systems or edge computing locations.
