Barry, Operations and Services Director
Barry joined Telent following his departure from the military in 1999 after nine years’ service in the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. During his military career, Barry was awarded the Best Gunner award and represented his regiment at both long distance running and rugby. Having developed strong ICT skills, Barry joined Marconi as a Senior ICT Engineer. In 2001, Barry helped win Marconi’s first major emergency services' ICT Services contract with Mersey Fire & Rescue Service. Following the formation of Telent in 2006, Barry continued to develop his career with the business, providing critical support services to the emergency services sector, specifically in the Command and Control and Airwave services arena to a national level. In 2019, Barry was promoted to Operations and Services Director at Telent following his successful leadership of Telent’s business in the emergency services sector as General Manager for several years.
Laz, Logistics and Supplier Performance Manager
Laz joined Telent as a Graduate, having completed 5 years’ service in the Army as a Radio Operator doing tours around the world, and then going on to complete his degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. His rotations gave him a broad exposure to the business across procurement, traffic and asset management, progressing after the programme from a Systems Engineer to Logistics and Supplier Performance Manager.
Laz has recently completed his Msc in Engineering Management – supported by Telent, as an on-going investment in Laz’s future in the business.
Shiva, ICT Service Desk Engineer
Shiva joined the Corps of Royal Engineers at the age of 18 and served for 13 years. Starting as a Plant Operator Mechanic, Shiva experienced many varied and rewarding exercises in the military and left as a Corporal to pursue a career in IT. Maximising the Resettlement resources, Shiva completed multiple IT certifications – and advises Service Leavers to take full advantage of the IRTC Grant, as this is what prepared him for the job market.
Shiva joined Telent as a Technical Service Desk Engineer and is enjoying the challenging and rewarding role and working with a Team of Engineers.

Mark, Service Centre Manager
Mark spent 14 years in the Artillery reaching the rank of Bombardier and felt daunted leaving the Forces after such a long time. He first joined Marconi in 2005 as a Maintenance Engineer working on London Underground – progressing through the ranks, with opportunities to train, improve skills and progress into a variety of areas in the business, Mark is currently the Service Centre Manager in our Transport business.
Mark believes that the strong ex-Forces presence within Telent helped with transition to civilian life and that the work ethic Service Leavers bring from their time in the Forces are a great benefit to the business.
