Telent leads market with 14-year service contract with National Express Group

Leading technology company, Telent, has secured a 14-year contract with National Express Group to provide the market’s first ‘whole life’ service delivery contract to an organisation within the Train Operating Company (TOC) sector.

Under the whole life contract Telent will ensure that the essential Driver Only Operations (DOO) service which uses over 200 CCTV cameras and approximately 250 monitors across 60 platforms on the c2c franchise, which serves London to Southend, achieves the agreed availability.

The DOO system is a safety critical system that allows the drivers to see the train and the platform, to operate the train service without relying on dispatch staff.

Stuart Parker, Group Property and Environmental Director at National Express Group said: “Telent’s approach to our requirements has been truly remarkable and we are very pleased to be working with one of the market leaders on this project. The on-going service delivery by Telent will ensure that the systems are available to support train operations, allowing us to increase our focus on business critical issues and most importantly, the experience of our customers”

Steve Pears, Managing Director, Telent Rail, commented: “We are delighted to lead the industry with the provision of our whole life service delivery model to National Express Group. Telent already supports equipment on a third of UK rail stations and we are therefore well placed to deliver this service. “

“In addition to providing a vital service which supports the safety of rail customers and staff, the service model also ensures a cost effective solution for National Express Group and we are certain that other TOCs would also realise similar benefits.”
