The first TPCMS SCADA ECR site goes live in Romford thanks to Telent Technology Services

Telent Technology Services are delighted to announce that on 12th February, TPCMS (Traction Power Centralised Management System) went live in Romford Electrical Control Room (ECR) as part of the National SCADA Renewal Programme for Network Rail, which will integrate electrical control into a new single system across the country.

Telent has created TPCMS as a single platform for the control of the entire traction power network, integrating over 50 different technologies into this project. The new system is being rolled out across the UK in a staged process.

This is a major improvement from the previous systems, providing as it does the much needed security, resilience and business continuity capabilities that were required by Network Rail. There will also be greater levels of information available on the status of the electrified rail network through the new system, which will enable faster operational decision making.

The TPCMS system has a new user interface, that meets modern ergonomic principles. The user interface has been through extensive development and testing with the Network Rail users to meet their requirements. The Telent system provides Network Rail with a platform to develop future functionality, such as remote secure isolations, particularly as they expand electrification across the network. This interface will also allow additional areas of control to be migrated onto the platform.

Neil Glover, Projects Director Power SCADA, Telent, comments: “Telent TPCMS has now gone live at Romford ECR. This is a massive achievement for both Telent and Network Rail and marks a significant milestone achieved in the programme. Thank you to all who have been involved.”

Telent has designed, built, commissioned and installed the whole SCADA TPCMS, working closely with Network Rail to take on the user requirements and feedback to build a resilient, future proof system. Telent will continue to provide on-going system support and monitoring.
