Telent secures fully managed Station Information & Security System Contract

Leading technology company, Telent, has secured a 13-year contract with National Express Essex Thameside Trains (NXET Trains), operators of the c2c UK rail franchise, to provide a fully Managed Station Information and Security System (SISS) service.

The contract, which is Telent's second contract of this type with NXET Trains and worth £12.2 million, will see Telent fund the upfront purchase of NXET Trains’ SISS Customer Information systems (CIS), CCTV and PA systems, in addition to the deployment of these assets across of all of the franchise’s 26 stations. This agreement is in return for a 13-year franchise term contract during which NXET Trains will pay a fixed monthly fee.

Under the contract, Telent will purchase, renew and provide the following additional NXET SISS assets: 893 CCTV Cameras; 117 CIS Screens; 28 PA systems including 555 PA Speakers; 81 Passenger Help Points; 3 Telent MICA Station Management Systems.

This agreement will release funds for NXET Trains at the start of the rail franchise, the period during which operating profits are reduced due to franchise mobilisation costs.

Stuart Parker, Group Property and Environmental Director at National Express Group, said: “The Telent Managed SISS Service model will ensure our station communications and customer information systems are updated in line with our franchise commitments to the UK Government. It will also ensure they are maintained to the highest possible standards throughout the franchise term. In turn, this will allow us to focus on business critical issues and most importantly, the travel experience of our customers.”

Steve Dalton, Managing Director, Telent Rail, comments: “We are delighted to be working with NXET Trains on implementing our fully Managed SISS service, which is focussed on delivering multiple benefits to the franchise and its customers. We are also very pleased to be once again leading the rail sector with this commercially innovative agreement.”
