Telent awarded Northern contract to maintain one of the UK’s largest rail station networks

Telent strengthens 15-year partnership with Northern Trains Limited through new critical maintenance work

Telent, a leading critical infrastructure technology provider, has been awarded a major three-year term contract to deliver specialist support and maintenance services to Northern Trains Limited’s (NTL) extensive station network.

Under the new agreement, Telent will be responsible for maintaining over 12,000 critical Station Information and Security Systems (SISS) assets, including CCTV, Customer Information Screens (CIS), Public Address (PA) and Passenger Help Points (PHP). These systems play a vital role in protecting, informing and enhancing the passenger journey, meaning they must be managed and maintained to the highest standard.

The scope of services includes both reactive and planned maintenance, as well as ad-hoc CCTV footage retrieval and intruder alarm support. Telent’s approach, underpinned by its ISO 55001:2014-certified Asset Management System, ensures high standards of compliance, performance and reliability across the network.

With more than 500 stations, Northern, which operates as part of the Department for Transport (DfT), is the second largest train operator in the UK, serving millions of passengers across the North of England. The contract marks a significant milestone in the 15-year partnership between Northern Trains Limited and Telent.
