Steve White Cash for Kids challenge

Hear how Steve White has been helping to bring Christmas magic to more families this December

Mission Christmas

‘Tis the season of giving and Steve White, Senior Solutions Architect in Transport (Highways) has been on a mission to ensure that more families are able to enjoy the magic of Christmas this year.

Earlier in December, Steve volunteered to help support the charity Cash for Kids and their Mission Christmas campaign. Christmas can be a difficult time for many families and the charity runs the campaign every year to ensure that as many disadvantaged children as possible receive a gift over the holidays.

Steve has been involved with Cash for Kids since 2019, after hearing about it from a friend who is a local Coventry business owner and ambassador of the charity. For the last few years, he’s decided to donate his own money, with local children greatly benefitting from his generosity.

When the opportunity to support the charity arose again this year, Steve had bigger aspirations for fundraising. He decided to approach Telent’s Senior Leadership Team for additional support and was granted £1500 by Andy Gifford, Highways Director to help drive his mission forward.

Assisted by Neil Bailey, Chief Engineer in Highways, Steve dashed around the shops and secured 114 presents for Cash for Kids.

"

I did this two years ago when I was a contractor for Telent, after hearing this year that people are actually having to use the term “heat or eat” it broke me.

“Thank you so much to Jo Gretton and Andy Gifford for approving the charitable spend. Special thanks goes to Neil for getting me around and buying (from what I can tell!) all the toys he never had as a kid.

“Thank you also to Adam Bench (Fleet Operations Manager) for enabling me to have a brand-new van to deliver the presents in.

“If anyone wants to read into Cash for Kids and their Mission Christmas campaign (or donate towards it to support disadvantaged children) it’s much appreciated. As many as 114,000 children won’t have a Christmas gift this year so every little bit helps.”

For many families this year, Christmas will be something that they simply can’t afford. If you’d like to support Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas campaign, you can either take a new and unwrapped gift to one of their drop-off points, donate cash or gifts online, or sign up and get involved with some fundraising.
