Telent have a UK-wide cable network field force that specialise in the deployment, repair and maintenance of fibre optic and copper cable infrastructure across multiple operational environments. Our Traffic technology teams are trained to Highways 8 and NRSWA standards, allowing us to work in all roadside environments.

Customers, such as Highways England, benefit from years of experience embedded into our processes, systems and teams, combined with our domain-specific experience and accreditations.

Through the NRTS2 contract, Telent maintains the fibre network owned by Highways England and located alongside the English Motorways and Major A-Roads, and providing the mission-critical communications that allow Highways England to control over 30,000 roadside devices. As part of this project, Telent are responsible for maintaining both the passive fibre network and the transmission network on a fully managed service basis and are currently delivering a major project to upgrade the network to the latest high bandwidth 10GE Transmission network technology.

This involved:

  • Identifying spare fibres
  • Moving services
  • Making equipment and optical networks redundant to make fibres available,
  • Carrying out OTDR, ILM, CD, PMD tests on the fibres.
  • Replacing and repair of fibres that fall outside of the specifications,
  • Survey and update of as-builts information
