Telent engineer becomes Chair of Young Rail Professionals West Midlands

Telent’s Veena Kumari has been appointed as the new Chair for the Young Rail Professionals West Midlands. Young Rail Professionals (YRP) is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to promote, inspire, and develop rail professionals in the first 10 years of their careers.

As Chair for the YRP West Midlands, Veena will be responsible for running the regional committee as well as organisation of the activities in the region, ensuring that events are delivered regularly.

Veena, a Group Network and Security Engineer, has been at Telent for four years and involved with YRP since 2017. Part of Veena’s role will entail maintaining and building external relationships with other corporations across the rail industry and continuing to spread information about the YRP and the work it does.

"Supporting new rail professionals on their journey in what can be an exciting, rewarding, and varied career is something which I am very much looking forward to and hopefully can bring about some great opportunities for our members. I’m incredibly excited and honoured to take up such a position and take my involvement with YRP to a new level. YRP is an excellent initiative to learn about the latest updates in rail directly from industry leaders at events, network with peers to learn more about what the industry has to offer and find new career avenues, as well as gain and develop new skills at seminars, workshops and other hands-on events"

YRP was founded in 2009 to promote the rail industry as a great place to work, inspire the next generation of railway talent and develop young people to reach their full potential. Bringing together people from all aspects of the industry, YRP has no age limit in becoming a member – although its events are generally aimed at members with 10 years or less experience in their rail career.

Telent has supported YRP for the last four years, initially getting involved as ambassadors until becoming Gold sponsors.
