Rounding up a week of apprenticeship activity for NAW 2021

Many successful careers at Telent start in our apprentice scheme. Whether starting as trainees on rail, telecoms, and road programmes to reaching managerial, directorial and C-suite positions within the company, apprenticeships at Telent represent opportunity, diversity, and achievement.

In support of National Apprenticeship Week, the annual government-backed week-long celebration of apprenticeships last week, Telent showed tomorrow’s industry professionals, experts, and leaders how rewarding taking the first step on to this career path can be.

Apprenticeships are a core part of Telent’s success as a company, and with major civils projects starting and slated for the future to enhance the country’s transport and telecommunications networks, it’s important we have well-trained professionals ready to deliver tomorrow’s prosperity. Last week we took part in a number of activities to show our support for the initiative, and to provide prospective apprentices with the knowledge and resources to apply for an apprenticeship with Telent.

Virtual visits

We took part in a Department for Transport’s virtual careers event, during which we hosted a panel for countrywide attendees to participate in a Q&A about apprenticeships with Telent and to showcase the diversity of careers within the company.

Following a successful Midlands event in December, Telent’s STEM team ran an apprenticeship event in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions aimed at schools and young people. A total of 41 schools and 74 individuals joined Telent for the event – past attendees to similar events have applauded them as an inspiration for many who never considered careers within the industry.

Join the #AskAnApprentice conversation

We have been active on social media to interact with people interested in our apprenticeships. On Twitter we answered your apprenticeship related questions sent to us using the hashtags #AskAnEmployer or #AskAnApprentice. Our current apprentices, line managers and our Graduate and Apprenticeships Manager answered questions throughout the week.

We have also been showcasing videos with Telent employees who started their careers as apprentices, as well as current apprentices. Hear what it’s like to be an apprentice at Telent, any tips from those with experience on the scheme, and journeys from starting as apprentices to forging careers within the company.
