As the Platinum Partner of the APD Control Room Awards 2019, Telent are delighted to confirm that the finalists have been announced for these major awards celebrating the unsung heroes of critical control rooms.
This year the awards attracted almost 400 nominations, almost double that of the inaugural event in 2018, from emergency services and other critical control operations with the vast majority recognising the extraordinary work of individual personnel.
Nominations for the nine award categories came from more than 60 organisations, including the first entries from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and non-emergency services control rooms operated by organisations such as the Health and Safety Executive and voluntary body MEDSERVE Wales.
The shortlisted entries recognise the remarkable, behind-the-scenes work of control room staff in keeping the public safe and secure and responding to the most challenging and harrowing emergency incidents.
The awards are run by APD Communications, which develops critical, life-saving software used by the police and other emergency services organisations across the country.
In addition to being the Platinum Partner of the awards, Telent are also sponsors of the Award for Services to the Public.
As a member of the six strong judging panel for the awards Barry Zielinski, Telent’s General Manager, Public Safety & Defence, said: “We’re honoured to be the Platinum Partner of these prestigious awards and delighted that they have grown so strongly year on year.
“The nominations these awards attract are hugely impressive. They paint a powerful picture of control room staff responding to increasing demands and challenges with skill, resilience and total professionalism.”
Finalists have been announced across the following categories; Award for Services to the Public, Lifetime Achievement Award, Control Room Dispatcher of the Year, Leader of the Year, Control Room Call Taker of the Year, Community Champion Award, Special Recognition for Bravery and Courage Award, Young Achiever of the Year and Team of the Year.
In addition, a special John Gilhooly Unsung Hero Award will be announced at the awards ceremony. This award is dedicated posthumously to John Gilhooley who served in the Scottish Ambulance Service control room for almost 30 years.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday, March 7, at the De Vere Orchard Hotel in Nottingham when finalists and a select group of guests will enjoy an evening of celebration, reward and recognition. The cost of shortlisted nominees’ tickets will be covered, making it possible for all finalists to attend.
