Telent is excited to announce it has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s Young Rail Professionals Awards.

YRP brings together people from all aspects of the industry, whether they’re involved in engineering, asset management, train operations, strategic planning, maintenance, franchising, regulation, marketing, human relations and more.

The YRP Awards recognise the achievements of talented and passionate professionals at varying stages of their careers. At this year’s event YRP will present eight awards, including three new awards for 2024 in categories including Young Rail Personality of the Year, Distinguished Service Award, Young Rail Professional of the Year and more. You can find out more about the awards including the shortlists in each category on the YRP website.

Mentoring the next generation

Lee Watson, Engineering Manager in Rail has been shortlisted in the ‘Mentor of the Year’ category, which recognises individuals who are making a positive impact on the development of an individual or group. Lee acts not only as mentor to his engineering team but has worked tirelessly to align Telent’s mentorship process with the Institute of Engineering and Technology to create a portfolio of evidence that supports many under his mentorship and that is enabling them to deliver more challenging assignments for both Telent and Rail.

I’m fortunate to work in a really great team in Rail Engineering with the highest levels of skill and professionalism on show daily throughout the team. I was pleasantly surprised to learn I’d been nominated for this award and knowing that colleagues took the time to write a nomination in the first place is very humbling and appreciated. It’s even more amazing to have been shortlisted!

Telent’s commitment recognised with ‘Employer of the Year’ shortlist

Telent has been shortlisted in the ‘Employer of the Year’ category, which recognises employers who have demonstrated commitment to the next generation of railway professionals within their organisation and in the rail industry. Telent is incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for its commitment to supporting early career’s progression, inspiring the next generation of talented individuals and taking proactive steps towards equity in the workforce.

Through mentors like Lee and Telent’s recently announced partnership with RIA’s ‘Unlocking Innovation’ programme the business is not just sharing knowledge and experiences with colleagues internally but also with critical supply chain partners. The Rail business at Telent recognises it needs to attract and develop the talent needed to deliver for Rail and the team is committed to its role in making Rail and Telent a great place to work and grow.

We are proud to be a part of the YRP and having Lee and Telent shortlisted by them is fantastic and further recognition for the hard work he, and everyone puts in daily to making Telent an Employer of Choice. We recognise that we and Rail must develop our own talent to address the needs of Rail and Lee has done a great job in developing our Rail engineering community. Good luck to Lee, us of course and all the nominees.
