Telent receives green light to keep West Sussex traffic flowing

Warwick, U.K, 14th January 2021 Telent will hit 30 years of helping West Sussex’s traffic flow freely following the critical infrastructure maintenance firm winning a contract extension from the county council. The new contract will last for 5 years from October 2021 and builds upon a strong partnership first established in 1994.

“Since the very beginning of our relationship with West Sussex County Council, we’ve worked in close partnership with the Highways Team to keep traffic moving and road users safe; bringing innovative monitoring technologies & maintenance methods which have kept service availability levels above 99%,” said Nigel Weldon, Business Development Director at Telent. “The open and honest relationship between West Sussex & Telent’s local team has strengthened over the years, ensuring the continuation of a very successful partnership.”

"The durability of the Council’s relationship with Telent is testament to the high standard of dedication, expertise and professionalism we’ve grown accustomed to from the team. The local value of the contract extends beyond road safety, as Telent has used the contract as a conduit for local apprenticeships and STEM training, helping support the education and opportunities for local students and young adults"

- Barry Edmunds, Asset Manager at West Sussex County Council

West Sussex County council use Telent’s own CCTV-enabled Remote Monitoring System (RMS), which enables the remote monitoring of traffic signals to reduce the time equipment is out of action and speeds up repair and maintenance time. RMS is installed at 248 sites in West Sussex.

RMS reduces delays to the public as traffic signal site faults are reported automatically and can sometimes even be dealt with remotely, depending on the nature of the fault. The system, designed by experienced traffic control engineers and used by more than 20 local authorities right across the UK, is simple to use and has an interface accessible via a smartphone or laptop.

This extension with West Sussex County Council follows another recent successful contract renewal with Kent County Council.
