Telent continues fundraising efforts to help end UK’s ‘biggest’ health crisis

Ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on 21st September, Telent is on track to exceed its aim of raising £60,000 in 2019 for Alzheimer’s Society following various fundraising events. Recent activities include a charity golf day hosted for the company’s partners and customers.

Telent aims to raise £60,000 per annum to support the efforts of Alzheimer’s Society, the largest and most influential dementia charity in the UK, having signed a three-year partnership earlier this year.

Alzheimer’s Society funds research to find a cure for dementia and supports those living with and affected by the disease. Dementia was this year described as the ‘biggest health crisis of our time’.

The golf day, held at Lambourne Golf Club in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, on 5th September, raised over £49,500 for the charity. Every penny of the team’s entry fees, as well the proceeds from an after-dinner auction, will go to the charity.

Telent’s employees have organised and taken part in multiple fundraising initiatives this year, including the “Big Three 2019” which started with a 22-mile yomp along the Hope Valley in Derbyshire. This was followed by the “36 in 36” sponsored themed walk at Broad Street Rugby Club in Coventry, where a team of Telent employees each walked a mile every hour for 36 hours, all sporting various fancy dress costumes, covering a total of 430 miles. The final event took place on 14th September with a sponsored walk visiting all the sites on Edinburgh’s Monopoly board, bringing the total for the “Big Three 2019” to almost £8,000.

Colleagues from across Telent took part in multiple sponsored walks, runs, and cycling events that all took place simultaneously on 19th July, raising over £8,000. The different activities were staged over courses of various lengths around Telent’s Warwick and Chorley offices to ensure there was something to suit everyone. An eight-strong team of cyclists from Telent also took part in the Birmingham Velo and raised £2,155.

“Alzheimer’s disease, the most common cause of dementia, is a cruel illness,” said Janice Meade, HR Director at Telent. “We applaud the invaluable work being done by Alzheimer’s Society and are proud to contribute towards helping the millions of people suffering from dementia and those admirably providing care and support for sufferers. As there’s currently no way to slow, stop or treat the diseases that cause dementia, we sincerely hope that the money raised from our charity events such can support research towards treating and curing the illness.”

Telent’s fundraising initiatives kicked off earlier this year with a Valentine’s Day bake sale that raised £1,009.63 to go towards research, awareness campaigns, local support services and advice and information about dementia.

By 2022, the Alzheimer’s Society has a number of strategic targets including offering support to all people newly diagnosed with dementia, making the public aware of the challenges posed by dementia and giving people affected more control to make choices about the care and support they have access to.
