telent recognised at 2019 Rail Staff Awards and Transport for London Supplier Awards
A successful week for telent as they attend two highly regarded industry awards
telent, a leading UK technology and network services company, is celebrating its talented and successful workforce after receiving recognition in a number of categories at this year’s Rail Staff Awards and Transport for London (TfL) Supplier Awards.
Held yesterday at the NEC, Birmingham, Trevor Wheeler, Person in Charge of Testing (PICOT) at telent, was highly commended at the Rail Staff Awards for the Digital Railway Person or Team Award. Always keen to take on the next challenge, Trevor has developed his technical engineering capabilities rapidly through the early stages of his career and works tirelessly to ensure safe and secure rail services across the country.
In recognition of those driving the rail industry forward, the Rail Staff Awards’ Digital Railway Award recognises either a team or individual for engineering an impressive new system. Trevor Wheeler is one of the few telecoms Persons in Charge Of Testing (PICOTs) in rail and was commended for introducing several initiatives which have led to new working practices, creating both cost and time efficiencies, and minimal disruption to rail services.
“I’m delighted to have been highly commended for the Digital Railway Award at the Rail Staff Awards’ this year, as it is so important to celebrate and recognise those who have dedicated their working life to a career in rail,” said Trevor Wheeler, PICOT at telent. “Receiving this recognition not only highlights our effective approach to business and our commitment to our customers, it also acknowledges the effort and creativity of our dedicated team. I would like to say a huge thank you to the incredible and talented team at telent and would like to extend my congratulations to all winners and nominees of the Rail Staff Awards this year.”
Whilst working on the ECML, renowned as one of the most congested fibre cables on Network Rail’s infrastructure in terms of data traffic, Trevor had to plan four full cuts to this cable. Trevor introduced a ‘cooling off’ period when the equipment was disconnected, rather than the traditional cut approach, which meant the equipment was quickly reconnected, rectifying the issues and mitigating the risk of causing significant train delays.
The 'cooling off' period - for which telent and Trevor were highly commended by Network Rail – Is now incorporated into all telent planned fibre works and is recognised as a vital planned period by Network Rail for cable cut overs.
telent was also selected as a finalist for three other categories, including a second nomination in the Digital Railway Team Award, the Learning and Development Award, with Trevor also shortlisted for the Rail Engineer of the Year Award.
Adding to its series of triumphs, telent was recognised at this year’s TfL Supplier Awards 2019, which celebrates the contribution that numerous companies make to running and improving London transport. Hosted at the London Transport Museum, on Wednesday 27 November, telent were shortlisted as finalists in two categories, Award for Innovation and Award for Collaboration.
As a proud sponsor of the Award for Skills and Employment at the Transport for London Awards 2019, and the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Rail Staff Awards, the telent team was present at both evenings to support all well-deserved nominees for their exemplary efforts to the transport industry. Steve Dalton, Managing Direct of Transport, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ged Mason of Morson Group, for accelerating the company’s integration of technology.
Lastly, we would like to congratulate all well-deserved winners and nominees at both the Rail Staff Awards and Transport for London Supplier Awards.
