Telent joins Rail Safe Friendly education programme as Gold partner

Telent has joined the Rail Safe Friendly programme (RSF) as a Gold-level partner and sponsor to help improve education about the importance of safety on the country’s railways.

Telent was presented with a gold disc to recognise its support at an event marking the initiative’s one-year anniversary.

The education programme, launched by Learn Live, teaches young people about the dangers of trespassing on Britain’s railways to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries.

Telent’s involvement in the programme includes the sponsorship of 150 schools onto RSF, which delivers Network Rail’s video safety content directly to schools.

"The country’s rail network is a vital and impressive infrastructure network, but it’s also important for people to know how hazardous an environment it can be. As a company that is closely linked to the work on and operation of the rail network, we are enthusiastic supporters of the crucial work Learn Live is doing."

Telent’s Lisa Goucher, Laura Powell and Kate Robson were presented with the gold disc at the Your Future In Rail event by Liz Ballantyne, whose 11-year-old son Harrison was tragically electrocuted in 2017 after entering the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal in Northamptonshire to retrieve his football.

“It was a humbling experience to meet with Liz Ballantyne and I speak for the whole team when I say we were touched by her courage and commitment to improving rail safety awareness. We hope our contribution can help keep young people aware of the dangers and help the programme save lives,” said Lisa.

Rail Safe Friendly was launched in March 2023 and already has over 4,000 schools on board with the programme across the UK.

It is a new addition to the Learn Live Channel, which, since 2019, has broadcast Network Rail and other safety content directly to over 21 million young people in more than 12,500 schools. This work has been undertaken in collaboration with the Trespass Improvement Team at Network Rail.

The broadcasts are delivered through live or on demand content digitally into classrooms and assembly halls via the Learn Live channel. The channel also has a moderated, GDPR compliant LIVE CHAT facility to promote interaction and involvement from the schools and colleges taking part in Rail Safe Friendly.

"We are delighted to welcome Telent as a gold level partner to Rail Safe Friendly. Telent’s support of the programme means that many more young people will receive vital rail safety education with the aim of preventing tragedies. The railway environment is a very dangerous place and it is through the support of the rail industry and companies such as Telent that we are able to make children aware of this."
