Telent donates over 1,000 devices to charity

Team Telent partners with The Good Things Foundation to tackle digital inclusion and reduce waste

At Telent, delivering measurable social value through our supply chain is a core priority. We actively support Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) while driving local economic and social impact through partnerships. We also work closely with internal and external stakeholders to implement carbon reduction initiatives, ensuring our procurement efforts align with sustainability and net zero objectives.

Responsible e-waste management

Electronic waste is among the fastest-growing waste streams globally. When not properly managed, discarded devices pose risks to both health and the environment.

Telent partners with leading circular economy providers to ensure e-waste is handled responsibly, maximising material recovery, reducing supply chain emissions and maintaining high security standards.

We strive for 100 per cent recycling of non-hazardous waste, but reuse remains our priority. Extending the lifecycle of equipment reduces the demand for raw materials and minimises environmental impact. By promoting reuse and refurbishment, we help customers achieve sustainable outcomes, strengthen the circular economy and lower Scope 3 emissions.

Balancing innovation with sustainability

Our employee user experience strategy is designed to enhance the experience of our colleagues by equipping them with the latest tools, which is essential for enhancing productivity, collaboration and job satisfaction. However, advancements bring the challenge of managing end-of-life devices sustainably.

As part of a major device refresh programme, Telent’s IT team agreed to donate over 1,000 smartphones to the National Device Bank, powered by The Good Things Foundation. This initiative securely refurbishes devices and distributes them to digitally excluded communities, bridging the digital divide.

The Good Things Foundation

The Good Things Foundation is a UK charity focused on digital inclusion through services that help individuals gain essential digital skills. Key initiatives include the National Device Bank, National Data Bank and the Learn My Way platform.

Through the National Digital Inclusion Network, community organisations can apply for free devices, free internet data from O2 and user support via the charity’s partnerships. Since launching, the initiative has delivered over 10,000 devices to disadvantaged communities, helping people get online and access essential services.

"

A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible, from our teams managing the returns to our partners ensuring these devices reach those who need them most. We’re incredibly proud to support such a fantastic initiative. With many devices returned due to IT upgrades and projects, this is a great way to extend their lifespan, reduce e-waste and support our communities, so it’s a win-win!

Community Impact

Telent remains on track to achieve a 50 per cent reduction in emissions across all scopes by 2030, as part of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This donation is expected to prevent up to 80kg of e-waste and reduce over two tonnes of CO₂e emissions from recycling and disposal processes. It also supports the communities who lack access to a suitable device or internet, both essential in today’s digital world.

"

This new partnership reflects our commitment to maximising social, economic and environmental value. Extending the life of our technology this way reduces environmental impact and helps to bridge the digital divide in disadvantaged communities, aligning perfectly with our goals as a sustainable technology provider. While the market value of these devices exceeds £75,000, the positive impact on the individuals who receive them is immeasurable
