Telent to demo its range of technology solutions for emergency services at BAPCO 2024

Telent will showcase a number of live demonstrations and presentations of its technology solutions for emergency services organisations at this year’s British Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (BAPCO) exhibition and conference.

Taking place at the Coventry Building Society Arena on 6-7th March 2024, visitors can sign up for guided tech tours around the exhibition floor to watch Telent’s demonstrations. They will cover a range of wired and wireless technology solutions that enhance network performance, improve user experience and support the sector’s transition to ESN.

Telent’s solutions can be viewed at Stand F11 in the exhibition centre and will focus on the in-vehicle communications equipment and services for connected vehicles, cybersecurity solutions, network and coverage solutions for the transition to broadband and smart and safe cities tours.

Diverse vehicle solutions

Telent has vast experience in supporting emergency service vehicle fleet communication upgrades and provides a complementary range of services to assist with the future transition to ESN. This includes coverage testing, control room support and the design, maintenance and deployment of critical communication networks. Telent’s stand at BAPCO will feature its solutions for major fleet upgrades, including its projects for the Ambulance Radio Programme and FireLink.

Ahead of BAPCO, Telent will also host a webinar on 29th February, from 10:30 - 11:30, to help organisations, particularly fleet managers, prepare for the transition to ESN. You can register for the webinar and find out about Telent's vehicle connectivity services here.

Enabling efficient communications for fire and rescue services

Telent’s range of Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) replacement solutions for fire and rescue services (FRS) station end systems will be demonstrated during the show. Station end systems perform a critical role in the mobilisation of firefighters and resources. It is vital that networks are kept up to date to continue to enable unfailing connectivity and efficient communication between control rooms and first responders.

The PSTN network – a traditional network of telephone lines currently used as a secondary bearer for station end and mobilisation systems – is set to be retired at the end of 2025. Telent’s solution is based on Cradlepoint’s wireless router technology that uses 4G mobile network services to provide the secondary bearer. This includes its solution that is approved for use with the ESN Connect service to provide readiness for the future transition to ESN and is currently deployed for Avon FRS.

Telent’s VLS solution, developed in partnership with Merseyside FRS, supports communications with residents during high-rise building evacuations and will be demonstrated on the Telent stand. VLS allows officers at an incident to communicate over a significant range with multiple occupants of a high-rise building simultaneously. Officers can provide updates and relay safety instructions and evacuation orders. VLS also has applications and use-cases for many other emergency services and public safety incidents, such as flooding and wildfires.

Next-generation networking solutions for ubiquitous connectivity

As technologies, applications and even cities become increasingly robust and require higher data rates, the role of critical communications networks have had to adapt accordingly. Telent offers a comprehensive range of design, build and management solutions for a number of industries.

Telent will provide an overview of its “best-of-breed” networking solutions that combines Wi-Fi, 5G Private Networks, SD-WAN, AI and cloud technologies seamlessly to create ubiquitous connectivity. This also includes a demonstration of the Juniper AI-Driven Enterprise (AIDE) helping emergency services organisations become hands-on across the fully operational and scalable AI-driven network.

You can hear more about Telent’s next-generation networking solutions for ubiquitous connectivity and its potential use cases for emergency services during a presentation from Mick Mohan, Group Engineering Director at Telent at 2pm on 6th March at BAPCO.

Cyber security solutions

Telent and the Cyro Cyber team will deliver a briefing and panel discussion to explore the specific cyber security threats that are facing police and emergency service organisations at 9:30am – 10:30am on 8th March. The panel discussion chaired by Barry Zielinski, Strategy and Development Director at Telent will discuss the challenges and opportunities of adopting new technology within the emergency services sector. The panel will also include Paul Rose, Chief Security Officer at Cyro Cyber, David Moore, Chief Information Security Officer at Telent and a representative from Police Digital Service.

Police, fire, ambulance and other public safety organisations can sign up for a BAPCO exclusive Cyber Threat Exposure Scan at the Telent stand or the cyber security briefing and panel discussion. The scan allows organisations to understand its exposure to external threats, review appropriate protective controls, understand their vulnerabilities and learn of the potential business impacts of cyber-attacks.
