Telent appoints Barry Zielinski as Operations and Service Director

Telent Technology Services Ltd (Telent), a specialist in the effective operation of the UK’s critical national infrastructure, has appointed Barry Zielinski as Operations and Service Director for its Network Services division. This promotion follows Barry’s successful leadership of Telent’s business in the emergency services sector as General Manager for several years.

As part of Barry’s new role, he will oversee Telent’s technical resources, pre-sales and customer service contracts, ensuring the effective and successful delivery of ongoing projects and services across Telent’s Public Sector, Service Provider, Emergency Service and Defence customers.

With over 20 years’ experience in the public sector, Barry will also manage the integration of service desks and engineering functions across Telent’s Network Services division. This will combine expertise and resource from different disciplines with Barry’s experience to enhance Telent’s offerings for all customer sectors including the emergency services.

With this in mind, Barry’s appointment comes at a crucial time, as the blue light sector looks to embrace Information Communications Technology services (ICT) to enable the digital transformation of their operations to increase operational efficiency and allow resources to be prioritised towards front line services.

“While each emergency services provider is likely to have different requirements and priorities, many organisations are exploring the benefits of using third-party expertise to complement their own ICT teams and accelerate their transitions to digital maturity,” said Zielinski. “That is why we have developed an Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)-based ICT Service Catalogue to address the complex needs of today’s emergency services. This approach allows them to select just a single service or group of related services from Telent’s catalogue, enabling them to concentrate on what they do best - protecting the public and saving lives.”

Using this catalogue approach, Telent has proven experience in helping to enable the digital transformation of Blue Light services, including the successful deployment of a cloud-based infrastructure for East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) to enable the automation of its paper-based processes.

Telent also deliver a range of vital ICT services to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority, which range from specialist offerings specific to fire and rescue services through to IT services that organisations of all types depend on, including server and end user support. This is provided by Telent’s onsite service desk at the fire services HQ, handling more than 650 IT incidents per month, with 75% of issues fixed by Telent remotely, bringing significant cost-savings.

These are just a few examples of how Telent is supporting mission critical ICT solutions. Underpinning this is best-in-class service management and monitoring tool sets supporting continuous operational improvements for the emergency services and this is another key initiative Barry will champion as part of his role.

Renowned in his field, Barry has been selected to join the judging panel at the annual APD Control Room Awards 2020 - for the third consecutive year.

Recognising the exceptional and selfless contributions that workers in emergency services and critical control rooms make every day for the public, the APD Control Room Awards are crucial for celebrating these unsung heroes. Every team member, from the police, fire, and ambulance to the aviation and transportation sectors, will have the stories of their life-saving work heard.

"I’m absolutely delighted to be on the judging panel at the awards, they are truly an inspirational celebration of all the fantastic work the control room staff from all fields of the emergency services has achieved, I look forward to celebrating the courage, commitment and hard work of control room staff across the country for the third year running – one of the most memorable events on my calendar"
