Telent to deliver national CCTV works for the SMP Alliance

A contract for the installation of CCTV cameras, on the UK’s ‘smart’ motorways network, has been awarded to critical digital infrastructure specialists Telent. The cameras are a crucial component of the SMP Alliance’s programme to increase lane capacity on the strategic road network by embedding roadside technology.

Telent’s contract, delivered as part of the Alliance’s Smart Motorways Programme (SMP), covers the installation of permanent CCTV systems to aid safety on the roads. It will involve removal of existing roadside CCTV equipment and installation of new roadside equipment, allowing for integration with the NRTS network and the Regional Operations Centre (ROC) in-station systems.

"

Our work with National Highways stretches back years, so to be a part of the future direction for safe motorway transport is very important to us as a company.

We’ll support the programme’s aim to ensure exemplar performance in terms of safety, cost, time and quality, and to drive standardisation in delivery, with our expertise working on CCTV both on national roads and highways, and also a myriad of other projects across the UK.

"

- Andy Gifford, Director of Highways

The Alliance’s aim is to safely deliver a key element of the government’s second Road Investment Strategy, improving smart motorways up and down the country. The Alliance will develop, design, and construct the SMP and associated works that support the delivery of National Highways’ wider construction and maintenance programme.

"

We’re very pleased to welcome Telent into our supplier network to support delivery of the SMP during the next Road Investment Strategy and beyond, we’re confident in Telent’s expertise and experience to assist our objective to deliver on safety, quality and cost and time effectiveness as we modernise the Strategic Road Network, having worked closely with the company on a number of successful contracts

"

- Chris Hickey, Head of Supply Chain for the SMP Alliance

Telent’s previous work with National Highways includes the operation and management of NRTS (National Roads Telecommunication Services), a critical component of national infrastructure supporting the country’s 4,400-mile strategic road network. Other work includes Regional Technology Maintenance contracts
