Leading technology company, Telent, has completed a 1100km-long relay around the UK, raising over £60,000 for the company’s corporate charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.
Over 300 Telent employees from across the country took part in the five-day challenge by walking, running or cycling part of the route. Beginning on Monday 11th July 2016, the relay had two starting points - one in the North and one in the South - with the teams crossing the finish line at Telent’s Headquarters in Warwick on Friday 15th July 2016. Persevering through wind, rain and challenging weather conditions, the North team enjoyed a rest stop at the highest pub in England during their journey from Carlisle to Warwick, whilst the South team’s expedition from Camberley took them via Heathrow and Cambridge. Many others volunteered their time to plan the various relay legs, pit-stop logistics and support their colleagues on route with refreshments and encouragement.
The challenge has so far raised £64,984 with the fundraising total continuing to climb.
Mark Plato, Chief Executive at Telent said, “Challenge 1100 has been a fantastic success and it has been incredible to see so many people, including many of our customers getting involved. It really has been a team effort and I am so proud of everyone at Telent for organising such a great event, as well as running, cycling and walking all of those kilometres. Telent is really proud to support Macmillan Cancer Support as many of us have, and will be affected by cancer in some way during our lives. We are still collecting sponsorship and I have no doubt that we will achieve our £100,000 fundraising target over the next few months and help make a real difference to those living with cancer.”
Adam Nash, Corporate Account Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support said, “Macmillan is so grateful to everyone who took part, helped organise, cheered along participants and donated to Challenge 1100. I have been amazed at the level of support Telent have dedicated to this event, from the initial conversations about routes and logistics to the hundreds of colleagues taking part in various routes across the country last week. Telent’s fundraising efforts have been phenomenal and will go a long way to providing essential support to people living with cancer.”
