Telent Infrastructure Services (TIS) has been successful in winning a further 106 Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) build locations amounting to almost 950,000 premises which will receive ultra-fast broadband as part of the latest wave of Openreach tenders. This builds on the 53, Falcon 1a exchanges, locations awarded in August 2020.
Our teams have worked tirelessly on the tender process and this award is great testament to the professionalism of the whole TIS team and a clear sign of the confidence that Openreach has in our ability to deliver.
In May 2021 Openreach announced a further expansion of their gigabit-capable FTTP network rollout target from 20 million UK premises to 25 million by December 2026.
This latest award, together with the recent Rural Build, and Retro New-Sites awards, retains Telent’s position as the largest FTTP delivery partner to Openreach which seeks to ramp up to deliver a peak build of 4m premises per year.
Work on the latest award will commence in April 2022 and will benefit a further 1 million homes and businesses, upgrading broadband connectivity across the country to level up the UK and benefit generations to come.
"“We are very pleased to be supporting Openreach in the build of this ultrafast and ultra-reliable full fibre broadband network. The long-term contracts we have been awarded allow us to invest and recruit the people we need to provide an excellent service to Openreach. We have many exciting roles to fill, I would encourage anyone who is interested in working on this important national infrastructure project to visit our web site. This is a great opportunity for a new chapter in your career, as previous telecoms experience is not essential and full training will be provided”."
- Ric Welsby, Managing Director of Telent Infrastructure Services
This new work will create hundreds of job opportunities within Telent Infrastructure Services and means that we will be recruiting for more people as we increase our workforce across the region. We are looking for a wide range of people from operatives, to supervisors and project managers. Our recruitment ramp-up is vital in bringing in great new people, and we really encourage anyone interested to check out our vacancies here.
Openreach will build Full Fibre technology to a total of 25 million premises, including more than six million in the hardest-to-serve parts of the country by the end of 2026.
As one of Openreach’s largest contractors, Telent is playing a major part in their deployment of a network which is future-proof, consistent and dependable and will support the United Kingdom for years to come.
We are making a difference to the UK economy and society; the roll-out of ultra-fast broadband is a vital part of the bounce back for the UK economy/population, of which we are extremely proud to be part of this exciting project.
