Telent reaches another major milestone with BSkyB

Telent has reached another milestone for its work to date on the BSkyB Network Services contract.

Telent manages the volume deployment, installation, commissioning and systems integration, of access equipment as part of Sky Network Services Local Loop Unbundling programme (LLU), as well as the supply of associated installation materials. Telent also marshals, configures and tests equipment in its National Distribution Centre before roll-out into the field, as well as providing first line maintenance and 24×7 support for Sky’s ADSL portfolio.

Latest figures show that during 2009, Telent and Sky peaked at completing a record number of site deployments in one week whilst proactively enabling the network with the technology to support voice calls as well as broadband services. We hit a major milestone providing enough capacity to meet the target of migrating hundreds of thousands of voice customers onto the new voice network.

“This is a significant achievement and Telent have played an integral part in its success,” comments Kathy Edgington, Implementation Project and Programme Manager of Sky Network Services, Sky’s broadband infrastructure division. “As with any implementation of this size and complexity we contended with a range of technical issues, but Telent and Sky overcame these through a close partnership.”

This is not the first successful contract milestone. One year into the programme in 2007, Telent helped BSkyB reach over 70 percent of UK households with their broadband roll-out, making Sky Broadband the fastest ever growing ISP.

“This is a great achievement for Telent and is evidence of our expertise in delivering high volume communication services within very short time-scales”, comments Paul Redshaw, Head of Network Vendor Sales, Telent. “We look forward to our continued relationship with Sky and to successfully achieving the next project milestone.”
