Team Telent raise money for Alzheimer’s Society one letter at a time

Telent’s new charity challenge sees the team run, walk or cycle in an effort to spell out Telent4Alzheimers across the United Kingdom.

Warwick, U.K., August 2020Telenthas set a target to run, walk, and cycle more than 53 marathons as part of its continuing effort to raise money for its charity partner, Alzheimer’s Society. Working together, team Telent, plus family and friends, will cover a distance equivalent to a plane ride from London to Moscow.

The route is 1382 miles and is spread throughout the United Kingdom, from Essex to Devon to Scotland, and collectively spell out Telent4Alzheimers. With so many route options available, everyone from the resident athletes to the easy-going ramblers are able to do their part for this fantastic cause.

“Everyone at Telent is proud to be contributing to such an amazing cause. We are encouraging everyone at Telent to sponsor their friends and colleagues as well as take part in this fantastic experience,” said Jo Gretton, CEO. “We’re all extremely impressed by the innovative route that has been created to both raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society. The routes are also incredibly scenic, and we are looking forward to seeing the fantastic photos and videos taken from the experience.”

This event comes at an essential time for the Alzheimer’s Society as they have experienced an influx of people requiring their support due to the impact of the coronavirus. An additional 5778 people affected by dementia have requested assistance for the first time since the crisis started, and over 110,0000 ‘Welfare Calls’ calls have been made since lockdown started. Despite the increase in obstacles, Alzheimer’s Society remains committed to delivering life-saving support to the people that need it and ensuring that people affected by dementia are not left behind to face the current crisis alone.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has meant our income has taken a real hit this year as events have been cancelled, so it is wonderful to see the charity committee rising to the challenge and coming up with innovative new ways to support us. By adapting planned fundraising events into virtual challenges like ‘Telent4Alzheimers,’ Telent are showing it’s still possible to fundraise safely and have a lot of fun doing so! Money raised by Telent will allow us to continue to be there to help those with no-one else to turn to, and we are hugely grateful to everyone taking part!” Lucy Polling, Senior Corporate Account Exec., Alzheimer’s Society

This event is the most recent charity expedition for Telent, having run other events earlier in the year, including the 12 hours, 12 miles, 12 pounds challenge, which required team Telent to walk one themed mile for 12 consecutive hours, with each person either raising or donating £12. Six Telent employees also virtually climbed the full height of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon while complying with lockdown guidelines. It was precisely 3048 metres in total, and team members walked up and down their stairs, or as part of their permitted daily exercise, walked their dogs up and down local hills.
