Telent has successfully delivered a major traffic signals installation for Westmorland and Furness Council as part of a wider transport improvement scheme in Barrow‑in‑Furness.
The project formed part of a main corridor upgrade programme into the town and represented the most complex element of the works. The installation included 42 signal poles across 24 phases, making it one of the largest delivered by Telent’s Traffic Technology Carlisle depot to date.
Despite the scale and complexity of the installation, Telent’s team worked closely with supply chain partners to complete the scheme within a two‑week programme. The works achieved a clean, snag‑free handover and were delivered to a high standard throughout. The installation supports a wider £5m active travel scheme, delivering major junction upgrades and improved safety along a key route into Barrow‑in‑Furness.
Telent has worked with Westmorland & Furness Council since its formation, and prior to that delivered services under the Cumbria traffic signals maintenance contract since 1994.
This was a complex scheme on one of Barrow‑in‑Furness’s busiest routes, and the team delivered an excellent result. Their professionalism, collaboration with our partners and attention to detail enabled a high‑quality, installation within a challenging programme, and demonstrates Telent’s capability to deliver large and complex traffic signal schemes for our local authority customers.
