Neurodiversity awareness: creating social value through Telent’s supply chain

Telent’s strategic responsible procurement initiatives create Social Value across the supply chain through neurodiversity awareness training for all stakeholders.

Telent are passionate about creating an inclusive environment where everyone can be themselves and reach their full potential. We also expect our supplier partners to uphold these principles, by recognising and celebrating the diverse range of neurological differences among individuals.

To provide customers with maximum value for money on a whole-life basis, Telent is committed to supplier diversity and the growth of responsible regional businesses. With almost 70% of current suppliers being Micro, Small, and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), Telent takes responsibility for improving their sustainability and social value performance to ensure they uphold our standards and drive future growth.

Each year, Telent’s Procurement team commits at least 100 hours of its resources to building supplier capabilities in these areas through a range of development resources; including training materials, guidance, practical support, and the opportunity to share best practice.

The team’s key accomplishments

Through their latest ED&I initiative, Telent’s Procurement team have created and cascaded neurodiversity awareness training to the supply chain, helping suppliers and their people understand what neurodiversity is, it's important in the workplace, and how everyone can be more neurodiversity-friendly

All members of the Procurement and Fleet team have completed the training as part of Telent’s internal Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Briefing programme

Supporting the Neurodiversity Community Group at Telent, and their goal of promoting greater acceptance, understanding, and inclusion of neurodiversity around the business and in local communities.

Not only does this training ensure suppliers meet our standards and deliver maximum value for money, but crucially, it helps people to understand others around them and promotes the inclusivity we expect from our partners. We anticipate this training will generate around £5,000 of measurable social value for our suppliers’ communities, in addition the £40m of local social and economic value generated by our spend with MSMEs in the last financial year.
