Since 2005, Telent has been responsible for maintaining communication assets for The London Underground, including CCTV. As one of the world's busiest public transport services, CCTV is crucial for crowd control, station management, and supporting police and health & safety. With over 15,000 cameras, managing the estate's CCTV was operationally challenging, relying on manual checks that took an average of 19 days before a fault was logged with Telent's 24/7 Service Desk.
To overcome these inefficiencies, Telent developed Arbitex a CCTV remote monitoring system that automatically alerts Telents Service Desk within 24 hours of any image that deviates from its approved benchmark. With the ability to analyse the issue remotely Telent's highly experienced Systems Engineers are able to asses and proactively plan to ensure an first-time-fix.
Now, with Arbitex, London Underground enjoys a fully functional CCTV estate with quicker response times, improved operational efficiency, and significant maintenance cost savings. Notification downtime has been reduced from an average of 19 days to just 24 hours. The number of fix engineers required has decreased from three to one, and onsite fix time has been reduced from 3.5 hours to 2 hours, resulting in a 20% reduction in CCTV maintenance costs.
