Diversity & Inclusion at Telent

We’re passionate about creating an environment that champions diversity and inclusion, where everyone feels they belong, can be themselves and empowered to reach their full potential. People are at the heart of our business, and we believe that our teams should reflect the diverse experiences and backgrounds of the communities we support.

We want our colleagues to feel able to share their unique identities, cultures, experiences, skills, expertise, and insights. It’s why we’re committed to creating a welcoming environment that ensures everyone feels respected and valued.

Jo Gretton, Telent CEO

"Telent doesn’t operate in a bubble. Our services connect and impact on the daily lives of everyone in the UK, so it makes sense that we’re representative of those wider communities. It’s our people that make Telent a great place to work. It’s a priority that we support an environment that brings diverse people together and encourages everyone to thrive. Ensuring an inclusive culture is essential too: when we work together, when we value ourselves and each other, we achieve more as individuals and as a team."

Diversity & Inclusion at Telent

Our Action Plan

Our Values and Behaviours

Our Values, and the Behaviours that underpin them, help us to focus on what we need to do to continue growing a supportive culture at Telent. It’s everyone’s responsibility to help us achieve this. One of our core Values is Be Inclusive and this ensures that everyone works towards the same goals and embodies inclusive behaviours in every aspect of their day-to-day.

Diversity and Inclusion is integral to our business and is championed by our colleagues. We have a dedicated Equality Diversity & Inclusion Steering Group made up of passionate volunteers from around the business. Their role is to provide direction and support for Telent’s ED&I strategy, drive initiatives, and support Telent in meeting its commitments.

Telent Communities

Telent Communities play an integral role in supporting a One Telent culture. Our teams are spread out across the UK, and our Communities help to keep colleagues connected and supported.

Our Communities are led by volunteers from around the business, and provide a place for colleagues to connect, support, and engage with one another. Examples of our Communities are: Telent Black Professional Community, Pride at Telent, Military Community, Menopause Group and many more.

Gender Pay Gap Report

We are continually working towards improving gender equality – not just within Telent but in the industry as a whole. We are making great progress, but we recognise there is always more to be done to reach this goal.

One of the areas we work hard in is maintaining pay equality for equivalent jobs. We undertake annual reviews to actively address any unwarranted gaps and ensure our policies and procedures are fair.

Our Stories

At Telent, we encourage our colleagues to share their own real-life stories and experiences to celebrate the many diverse people working in our business.

We support our people in sharing blogs all year round and invite them to take part in Telent Live Talks every quarter. These are live panel discussions where a handful of people from around the business come together to share their experiences and views on important topics: such as International Women’s Day, Pride Month, Black History Month, and more.

Our partnerships

We currently have a number of partnerships that help us to support a culture of ED&I at Telent. We support Transport for London’s (TfL) Women into Transportation and Engineering (WiTnE) initiative, the Young Rail Professionals (YRP), and a ‘Women in Leadership Development Programme’ with Raise the Bar. We also work closely with mental health charity, Mind as our Corporate Charity for the next few years.

We’ve joined over 140 organisations in signing up for the joint ‘Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Charter’ launched by Women in Rail (WR) and The Railway Industry Association (RIA). Being part of this charter is important to us to promote positive change and champion diversity and inclusion within the rail industry.

The Equal Group: GLA Design Lab

We work closely with The Equal Group's Greater London Authority (GLA) Workforce Integration Network (WIN) Design Labs to tackle underrepresentation of young Black men in work construction and infrastructure. This programme is part of the Workforce Integration Network (WIN) within the Mayor of London’s Strategy for Social Integration to improve pathways for underrepresented groups in the workplace.
